My 'Sean Carter' Regrets →
I don’t regret using the Jay-Z line, “I’ma gonna keep doin’ me, unfortunately” as the epigram of my 2003 memoir. The for-better-or-worse connotations bring me joy to this day. However, using Jay-Z’s slave name was probably a mistake, in the commercial sense. Even today, most people don’t recognize Jay as being Sean.
People say the thing owes a lot to Dave...
I Prefer Films Sweded →
I just heard an NPR film report on the subtle rise in popularity of Swede Fests. Let’s assume you aren’t familiar with the concept of Sweding. Not a lot of people saw the Michel Gondry underground classic Be Kind Rewind.
But you shouldn’t only know about the Sweding process. You need not only see the film. You should be Sweding, yeah. And maybe you should start your own...

One of our first dogging adventures, taken some time ago by me. My hotwife was spoiled by two guys and me. Hope you’ll like it. Comments are welcum.
I feel I should explain to some of my casual Tumblr followers that dogging is a thing, at least in Europe. It’s not a part of my own sex life, but I’m incredibly compelled by its existence. If a...

#OWSWINNING!
Let’s suppose everyone goes home tomorrow. Say law enforcement kicks everyone out of Occupy Los Angeles at 12:01 tomorrow morning, as is the schedule, and no more physical actions take place, anywhere. Say these things happen. What would it mean?
The video above illustrates how our contest against the corporate overlords could only be more closely contested, certainly not...

What's Wrong with the Media, in Short →
Very short. Class dismissed.
The Roots Videos →
Dude, I’m tellin’ you: This is what visual representation of an important hip hop group ought to look like. The Roots on video just gets better, more ambitious through the years.
Here’s to longevity, integrity and wit.
In Conversation with Coppola →
He’s interviewed before an audience at the Toronto Film Festival, and the revelations are stacked high. Like, did you know that he only made The Godfather so that he could fund more small, personal films in the vein of The Conversation?
(At least that’s what he’s saying today!)
My favorite nugget is an bit of advice to young people:
The same thing you get fired for they give...
NCS Book Club: ‘Negropedia’ →
For the new site New Culture Society, I wrote about Patrice “The Assimilated Negro” Evans’ new paperback.
Fishbone @ Berkeley Square
I saw them in 1986. It was a sweaty, funky affair. I was 20 and had not previously been to a small club show like that.
“When Problems Arise” was my favorite Fishbone song back then. But I do believe the crowd skanked hardcore when the band played “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”.
I’m just about set to watch the American Masters documentary on Woody Allen, a seminal influence.
Ya Dig Me? →
Prove it.
Oscar de la Culo →
Shades of Stevie Nicks.
Stand back, indeed.
